A tree to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022

A flowering cherry (Prunus sargentii) was planted on Friday  7 October 2022 on a small triangle of land beside the telephone box, to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Villagers voted in June for their favourite variety of tree and their choice was for Sargent’s Cherry which has delicate pink flowers in Spring and good Autumn colour.

Several residents got together in September to clear and level the area in advance of the tree planting (an old chestnut tree nearby had to be removed for safety earlier in the year).

The triangle has been re-seeded with a low-growing grass and wildflower seed mixture with a pathway of plain grass through the centre of the area. Native daffodil and crocus bulbs have also been planted.
